Established since 1983, under the name of 'Danny Chau Photolabs', Chaudigital's history began as a black & white professional photographic laboratory based in London's EC1 'Photographic Mile'. Printing for clients such as The (BBC) Hulton Picture Library (now Hulton Getty), The National Gallery, Open Society Institute, The Guardian Observer Newspaper Group, and renowned photographers such as Humphrey Spender, Mike Goldwater, Vibeke Dahl and many others, Danny Chau quickly gained a reputation for top quality film processing and printing in the UK's black & white photographic industry.
Realising the potential of digital technology, Danny Chau then decided to invest into digital printing. With personal experience developed in computers since 1983 and digital imaging since 1989, Danny Chau installed one of the UK's first Epson 9000 large format inkjet printers in April 1998, and an Imacon Flextight scanner in May 2000, to cope with demand. With this, the company provided high-quality digital imaging services to clients both in the UK and abroad.
Seeing there was a gap in quality digital imaging suppliers, in 2002 the company changed its name from Danny Chau Photolabs to Chaudigital, to focus on complete high quality digital imaging solutions for professionals. It also introduced on-demand fine-art gicleé printing and duplication services, and launched a consumer digital imaging website Paperandinks.com to supply end-users with top quality products.
In fact, Chaudigital had been witness to the forefront of digital imaging since 1985! In 1985 when he was still a young freelance photographer, Danny Chau was commissioned to hand-write Chinese calligraphy for a little known company called Cambridge Consultants Ltd (now CCL). The reason for this was China's then Premier Zhao Zi Yang was visiting the UK, the company was previewing a technology called Thermal Inkjet Printing, and wanted to give the Premier something as a memorable present.
With Danny's work fully digitised into the computer by engineers, the visiting Premier was then presented with a copy of the writing as it was being made on site at CCL's laboratories.
As we all know this development led to the introduction of inkjet technology the world over used by the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Canon and Epson. But this pioneering work meant Danny Chau helped collaborate in producing one of the world's first truly digital inkjet prints! - (as well as helping him learn early on, how to satisfy a very important customer).

A greyscale copy of the original inkjet print (which was in colour)
